Ares: Dealing With Vista

Since its initial development in 2002, Ares has then evolved into many versions, but all share the same communications protocol, network and user base. Unfortunately, operating systems also evolve with time alongside their security preferences. Windows Vista, for instance, has increased its security measures that interfere with all previous versions of Ares and all other software of its kind resulting into serious problems for the peer-to-peer file sharing users. Some of the P2P software developed workarounds to get through the tight security, like turning off the UAC – an important component of Vista’s increased security. Such a solution works but turning off a security feature made for the wellness of your computer might be too high of a risk to take.

Originally released in June 2008, Ares Vista is specifically designed to work with the Windows Vista’s increased security features. The developers had come up with an advanced technique that automatically generates a restructured list of snodes to use, so you will not encounter the problems the older versions are having – not connecting to the network.

Ares has now completely deserted all the older versions of the file-sharing software, constantly working on enhancements to their Vista version. The latest version, 3.1.0.4188, was released on March 20, 2009. This version boasts an improved connection capability along with a number of new chat room features.
